Richard Wilson is Senior Consultant at Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners. He has just completed an eleven-year tenure as President of Illinois Wesleyan University.
During his presidency, he led two strategic planning efforts, strengthened the University’s financial position in a very challenging economic time, and conducted the largest fundraising campaign in the school’s history.
He made the University’s Transforming Lives fundraising campaign a priority, raising more than $141 million, on a goal of $125 million. Results of the campaign included a dramatic increase in support for student scholarships, 20 new endowed professorships for the faculty, and completion of seven major capital projects.
Dick earned both master’s and doctoral degrees in higher education from the University of Michigan. His bachelor’s degree and honorary doctorate are from Alderson-Broaddus University in West Virginia.
He is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi national honor societies. He has been very active in serving community and professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
Prior to his appointment as President of Illinois Wesleyan, he served as both Associate Chancellor for Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Vice President of the University of Illinois Foundation. In that role he was part of the leadership team for Campaign Illinois and led campus efforts resulting in $1 billion in private support.
Dr. Wilson is an accomplished fundraising strategist and very effective in securing leadership gifts. His successful development efforts at Illinois Wesleyan University and at the University of Illinois are the result of his personal attention to securing major gifts. His great strength is in planning campaigns, strengthening annual fund and major gift capacity, and building relationships with board members, alumni, and other key constituencies.
