Christian has over 31 years as a non-profit Executive with the YMCA from Upstate New York, to the Mid-West, the Mid-Atlantic, and most recently in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout his YMCA experiences, he has provided staff leadership from small to large, to fast-paced YMCA’s with over 17,000 members with seven-figure annual budgets.

Christian’s first YMCA Executive Leadership position was in Manchester, Tennessee where he had the opportunity to start a small-town YMCA from the ground up. During his three years in Tennessee, he established a Board of Directors, took the organization through its YMCA and IRS 501 C 3 chartering process, raised capital start-up dollars, and built a new YMCA facility.

In Fort Wayne, Indiana Christian served as Branch Executive Director at two of their facilities. He was charged with opening their flag-ship and largest branch, the Parkview YMCA. At Parkview, Christian developed the branch’s first volunteer Advisory Board team, staffed up the facility, held their first Annual Campaign, and positioned the branch for a capital expansion within the first 14 months of operations. The Parkview YMCA had over 17,000 members and was in the black to a tune of almost $1,000,000 in the branch’s first operating year.

At Christian’s most recent posting in Birmingham, Alabama, he held the position of the Downtown Branch Executive and the Association’s Director of Development. Christian utilized his skillset of Board Development, Annual Campaign, Capital readiness, and Community Development to take the branch to a new level of community engagement and service

In Birmingham, Christian helped lead the Association to a record Annual Campaign, despite the Covid 19 Pandemic. This year the Birmingham Association has raised over $1,100,000 in Annual Campaign contributed dollars. His Downtown branch has led the Association in four of the last five years in total dollars raised, total number of campaigners, and percentage of members that are donors.

In Birmingham, Christian has also been involved in the Capital Campaign readiness and feasibility process, strategic planning, and led numerous community stakeholder initiatives. Christian serves on the NAYDO Hot Topics committee for the 2020 and 2021 conferences.

Christian has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, as well as a Master’s Degree from Springfield College in Recreation Management. His interests include gardening, hiking, and spending time with his wife of 27 years, Robin, and his 25-year-old son Graham.
